Fraser Christian
The Founder of the Coastal Survival School is a fully Qualified Charter Skipper, Holding a current MCA Commercial Endorsed Skippers Licence. Included in these qualifications are RYA Sea Survival, VHF Radio operator, Navigation and First Aid at Sea.
Fraser was first teaching back woods survival and bushcraft skills to his local scout group some 20 years ago and has since be lucky enough to fish, hunt and forage professionally. He has had some amazing experiences and mentors in his life and is pleased to now pass on and share his valuable lessons and knowledge with many others. He is also a fully Qualified Chef and Nutritionist with a Passion for Herbal Medicines, Wild food and Outdoor cooking skills including preserving and smoking foods. This has helped him gain an instinctive understanding and respect of both Nature and the Elements, he also recently lead and instructed the popular River Cottage 'Catch and cook' course.
Mike Potter
Mike has spent most of his life on the coast growing up in Devon and has always been found outdoors exploring the coast and country side. This love of all the wild led Mike to many different location and countries in the world . Mike has real first hand experience of many a Survival situation,Stories he will no doubt share with you on the day!
He has spent time and experienced many Amazing and Hostile parts of the Globe. Including Coastal, Desert, Arctic, Jungle and urban situation.
This included once finding the comfort of a Snow Hole on the frozen tundra's of Norway the unexpected home for 4 days in a Blizzard of relentless snow. The extra T-lights he carried, along with his always "Positive Mental Attitude" made all the difference to himself and his companions survival. He knows only to well that some Basic Survival Skills and Equipment can be Essential. If and when the unexpected should happen! He is also a Dedicated and experienced Shore and Boat Angler with a vast knowledge of bushcraft skills regarding the Seashore and coast.
Dave Jones
Dave lives in North Wales, after moving to the coast to be by the sea, he regularly gets chance to explore the local coast line from his Camel trophy rigid inflatable boat that he skippers. This is the boat we use for the expeditions and courses on the Llyn peninsular. Dave has a passion for all things bushcraft, one being knifes, which he boost a modest collection. Dave has a good knowledge of outdoor bushcraft and survival techniques, and is always willing to share them, including fishing, camp craft, coastal ways and coastlore.
Dave Wilkison
Dave Wilkinson has been actively involved with the outdoors since early childhood, and has been rock climbing from the age of ten. From this developed a passion for climbing and mountaineering that took him up many hard rock climbs around the world, and some of the most difficult ice climbs in the UK as well as numerous hard routes in the Alps. These include the north face of the Grandes Jorasses and the north face of the Matterhorn in winter.
Alongside this he has always had a keen interest in foraging for food, and in developing and teaching the skills necessary for survival in the great outdoors. Now based in Lancashire, for the past nine years he has worked as a university climbing instructor, covering all facets of the sport but with a particular specialism in the skills required for winter mountaineering and for sea cliff climbing. For the past four years he has also been employed as a sports' safety consultant and has worked for Lancashire County Council . When he has some time on his hands, to relax he likes to develop and cook new recipes, ideally based around something he has either grown or caught on his allotment, or spend a few hours sea angling.
Tom Lichfield - Seashore specialist and instructor
Tom has grown up and been luck enough to live on the coast for most of his life allowing for (more) than ample time to be spent on the coast usually catching something, somehow.
Tom has a degree in marine biology and specialised in fishery science (he knows how fish think). Tom can show you and identify every thing that lives in an around the beach and rock pools, he's a master fisherman with a soft patient approach to both hunting and teaching. Tom meet Fraser when he started working at River Cottage and between them went on to run and instruct there popular fish based events together.
Robin Harford - Wild edible plants consultant and instructor
Robin, who runs Eatweeds.co.uk - a wild food guide to the edible plants of Britain, is an established and respected wild food guild with in the subject, he regularly forages and eats wild food on a daily basis and has identified a great deal of wild plants as both edible and delicious, that many still haven't experienced. His knowledge spans back through generation into the history and folklore surrounding the plants he has discovered as well as there nutritional values.
